Cowboy Hats John B. Stetson is generally credited with inventing the first cowboy hat in 1865. The story goes that while out west, Stetson created and wore a hat made of fur as a joke. Before long, Stetson realized the benefits of this hat and was manufacturing them to the Cowboys of the west. The purpose of the original cowboy hat was to provide durability, protection from the harsh sun, rain, and winter. The cowboy hat soon became as much of a necessity as a horse and boots. The cowboy hat was glorified and became as American as “apple pie” when it was exaggerated and worn in the early western movies. Today cowboy hats are worn around the globe, but all roots can be traced back to John B. Stetson’s original cowboy hat. |
