The company rapidly grew, reaching in 1913 an annual production of more than
2 million hats, and employing than 2 million hats, and employing more than 2.500
workers. Located in the centre of Alessandria, the factory covered an area of
about 55.000 sqm.
Its products reached every corner of the world, even the moste remote ones,
and Borsalino could be considered, for those times, a small "multinational". Its
success lasted some decades.
Then, in the 40s, especially due to the fact that the hat was no longer a
part of everyday dress, business declined. However, the fame of its trademark
remained untouched all over the world, and the name Borsalino became part of
fashion history.
In 1970 it even inspired a famous and successful film "Borsalino", of course.
In 1986 the factory moved to a new site, more efficient and modern, in the
suburbs of Alessandria, whereas the offices of the old site not only house the
new University of Alessandria, but also a piece of the Borsalino history: aprecious museum dedicated to the history of the hat.
