The term "fedora" came about in the late 1800's, mainly known as an upper-class clothing accessory. However, in the beginning of the 20th century, fedoras became more widespread, eventually surpassing the then popular
Homburg Hat as the staple men's hat of the times. The hat's popularity soared as it was featured prominently throughout 1940's cinema, as characters playing detectives and gangsters were never seen without one. The fedora is widely associated with classic characters such as Humphrey
Bogart in Casablanca, the
Blues Brothers, and
Indiana Jones.
There are many different styles of fedoras that have sprouted up throughout the years. From the classic
wool felt pinch-front center dent fedora, to the
snap brim with the teardrop crown fedora, fedoras are made to fit just about anyone's outfit. Today fedoras have grown in style from their early 1910 ancestors. Although classic
dress hats are still worn prominently, fedoras now boast
intricate and artistic designs, different blocks,
cool styles, and more features than ever before.
