There's something so special about having an item that is one-of-a-kind.
One technique used to finish a straw hat is hand painting/ or color washing the straw. This creates a unique look that adds depth and richness and highlights the weave of the straw. There are several different types of ways this look can be accomplished. Some hats are dipped and dried. Others are painted and then the excess is removed with a cloth. Similar to the way staining a piece of wood highlights the grain this allows the natural patterns and textures of the straw to be the emphasis.
