Created With Our Hatmakers in Italy

We don't simply travel to Italy to buy hats. We go there to help create them.

Twice each year, we visit the workshops behind our Belfry Italia collection, working directly with experienced hatmakers on materials, colors, shapes, trims, and finishing details. Their generations of craftsmanship bring an understanding of hatmaking that can't be replicated.

We bring something to the table as well. With decades of experience selling hats and direct communication with the people who wear them we know which fits work, which materials customers respond to, and which traditional shapes can be refined for the way men dress today.

That exchange of Italian craftsmanship and Belfry customer insight is what shapes the collection.

The result is a selection of brimmed hats developed together, crafted in Italy, and exclusive to Belfry.

      Find Your Brim

From the timeless fedora to a modern trilby style, the right brimmed hat comes down to personal style, season, and how you plan to wear it.

      Fedora
The essential brimmed hat. Defined by its creased crown and versatile brim, a fedora can move easily from casual to dressy.

      Safari
A wider curved brim provides a relaxed profile and added coverage, making the safari an excellent choice for travel and outdoor wear.

      Trilby & Stingy Brim
A shorter brim creates a more compact, contemporary silhouette that's easy to wear with both casual and tailored clothing.

      Pork Pie
Recognizable by its flat-topped crown and narrow brim, the pork pie offers a distinctive alternative to the traditional fedora.

How to Choose a Men's Brimmed Hat

      Start With the Brim

      Narrow Brim
A streamlined, contemporary look that works particularly well for everyday wear.

      Medium Brim
The most versatile choice and a natural starting point if you're buying your first brimmed hat.

      Wide Brim
Creates a stronger silhouette while providing additional sun and weather coverage.

      Men's Brimmed Hat FAQs

What is considered a brimmed hat?

Fedoras, safari hats, trilbies, pork pies,  all fall within the broader category of men's brimmed hats.

What's the difference between a fedora and a trilby?

The primary differences are generally the brim and proportions. A traditional fedora usually has a more substantial brim, that can usually be worn with the brim snapped up or down, making it a versatile option.

A trilby tends to have a shorter, narrower brim that is permanently snapped down in the front and up in the back.

What brim width should I choose?

A medium brim is an excellent all around choice. Narrow brims create a more streamlined silhouette, while wider brims make a stronger statement and provide greater coverage. Face shape, height, shoulder width, and personal style can all influence which proportion feels most natural.

What are the best men's brimmed hats for summer?

Linen, genuine Panama, raffia, and other lightweight natural materials are excellent warm-weather choices because they offer varying combinations of breathability, low weight, and sun coverage.

What are the best brimmed hats for fall and winter?

Wool felt, merino wool, and wool-cashmere blends are particularly well suited to cooler weather.

Are Panama hats actually made in Panama?

Despite the name, genuine Panama hats are traditionally handwoven in Ecuador from toquilla straw. “Panama” describes the style and weaving tradition rather than the country where the hat is made.

How should a men's brimmed hat fit?

A properly fitted hat should feel secure without creating uncomfortable pressure around the head. It shouldn't easily fall off when you move, but it also shouldn't leave pronounced pressure marks after normal wear.

How do I know which hat style looks best on me?

Proportion is a useful starting point, but personal preference matters just as much. Trying different crown heights and brim widths is often the easiest way to discover what suits you. A good hat should look balanced. But more importantly, it should feel natural when you put it on.
