Eight quarter caps are known by many different names (newsboy cap, apple cap, gatsby cap, eight panel, etc.), for their casual style and vintage look. It has the same front peak and shape as the flat cap, but the body is much fuller than the driver caps. Eight Quarter Caps are generally divided into eight panels that converge at the buttoned top, and is attached at the front peak with either stitching, or a single or double button snap.
This classic style became popular in the early 20th century in Europe and America among both boys and adult men. It is widely associated with news paper boys (hence the name Newsboy Hats), as many of the young boys wore them during the early 1900's. The eight quarter cap was also associated with golfers, and later with popular movie legends James Dean (Dean Gatsby Cap) and Marlon Brando (Leather Brando Eight Quarter Cap). These styles are best done in the Belfry Baker Boy Collection.
