Packable Raffia Straw Brims – $149

Luxury Priced True. Woven from natural raffia straw, these hats are naturally breathable, flexible, and packable. We collaborated with our Italian friends, and craftsmen at Sorbatti on this collection to create hats that are designed to fold and return to shape with ease, making them as practical for travel as they are for everyday wear. These brims are part of our growing line of raffia styles, which have quickly become customer favorites and while similar hats may be priced closer to $285 at Janessa Leone, we brought them in direct at $149. Each piece reflects our ongoing commitment to pairing traditional artistry with modern function—hats that feel effortless, look elegant, and carry the kind of value you’ll notice every time you wear them.

      Superior Material: Raffia Straw

Raffia is a natural fiber harvested from the leaves of the raffia palm, a plant native to Madagascar and parts of Africa. The leaves are cut, dried, and then carefully stripped into long fibers that are surprisingly strong yet flexible. Skilled artisans then braid or weave these fibers into straw that is both lightweight and durable, a process that requires patience and precision. When crafted into hats, raffia offers a unique combination of structure and pliability, it can be folded or packed for travel, then spring back into shape with ease.

What sets raffia apart from other straw materials is its natural softness and flexibility. While many straws are stiff and prone to cracking, raffia bends without breaking, making it exceptionally comfortable to wear and practical for everyday use. It is also naturally breathable, allowing air to flow easily, which makes it ideal for warm-weather hats. The fibers retain a subtle, organic texture that adds character to each piece, while still delivering an elegant finish.

We choose raffia because it marries function and beauty in a way few other materials can. Customers love it for its effortless wearability, a hat that looks stylish in the city, performs at the beach, and tucks easily into a suitcase. Over time, raffia develops a lived-in charm without losing strength, making it a material that grows more appealing the more it’s used. With its natural resilience and artisanal origins, raffia is a superior choice for those who want both practicality and understated luxury.

Master Craftsmen: Sorbatti Italian Craft Since 1922

From Montappone, the heart of Italian hat making, Sorbatti has been shaping brims and crowns for over a century. Founded in 1922 by the Sorbatti family, the company began as a small workshop and has remained family-run ever since. Today, the next generations continue to oversee the business, carrying forward the same traditions of quality and craft while adapting designs for the modern wearer.

Each hat begins with premium materials, Italian-milled wool, pure linen, or natural raffia, carefully shaped by skilled artisans. The result is a collection that balances style with practicality: packable brims that spring back into shape, lightweight linens for summer, and raffia styles perfect for travel. Customers love Sorbatti because every piece feels timeless yet fresh, durable yet refined.
