Using a combination of rabbit and beaver fur, a luxuriously soft felt is created that can withstand 50 years or more of use. Known as the "gold standard" for felt hats, beaver felt offers a unique blend of softness and durability, making it resistant to rain. This special type of felt is made by mixing the underhairs of rabbit or beaver with a vibrating hatter's bow, followed by repeated pummeling and boiling to create a dense and compact fabric. Once formed on a hat-form block and steamed into shape, the outside surface is brushed to a glossy finish by the skilled hat maker.
