You’ve found the perfect hat style, now it’s time to make sure it fits like a glove. Hats in the Belfry’s handy hat sizing guide makes shopping for hats online simple with women’s hat sizing, men’s hat sizing and tips for measuring your head with our custom measuring tool. This guide will walk you through the general size guidelines, types of men’s and women’s hats sizes, measurement suggestions and tips for measuring your head when sizing for hats that are sold in numerical and alpha sizes. Before you place your hat order, be sure to bone up on hat fitting.

Measuring Your Head

Determine hat size by using a flexible tape measure, or a string and ruler. You may also measure your head by printing out our handy custom measuring tool. Measure from the back of your head bringing the ends together at the center of your forehead right above your eyebrows. Use the hat size chart below to determine your size, rounding to the nearest eighth of an inch as necessary. It is important that you measure your head, even if you’ve found a great fit with a certain size in the past, as hat sizes do vary brand by brand. Women’s Hat Sizes

In general, women’s hats are sized in one size fits most sizes or OSFM. This means that the style is manufactured in a single size with the adaptability to suit various head sizes ranging from 21.5 inches to 22.25 inches in circumference.

With that being said, actual hat sizes vary from designer to designer, so some hats will fit a smaller or bigger head depending on the style. Thankfully, most of these styles will have an adjustable inner drawstring or band to keep the hat in place and offer flexibility in fit if it runs a little large.

Men’s Hat Sizes

Men’s hats and caps are generally sized in types: numerical sizing and alpha sizing (small through extra large). In some cases, you may find men’s hats listed as OSFM, or one size fits most. These OSFM hats will generally fit heads with a circumference of 21.5 inches to 23 inches or a medium/large.

When you’re shopping for hats sized in alpha or numerical sizing, the first thing you’ll want to do is carefully measure your head following our measuring guide below. Once you’ve determined the circumference of your head, use our hat size chart to determine which size to order.

Excellent fit

Trying to find a hat in my size is hard. Every maker is different and most don't make hats in my size. Took a chance on Hats in the Belfry.
Received my XXL Daley today. Tried it on and a perfect fit for my big noggin. I got the toffee color. Wore it outside today and it kept my head nice and cool. Wife says I look great in it. Now I want to see if I can find one of these in felt material, same dimensions as the Daley and that will fit 63cm head size. Thank you Hats in the Belfry

This is an excellent hat for the summer time

This is an excellent hat for the summer time. I wore it all over the bahamas during a cruise. It kept the sun from burning my head, ears and face. While keeping the sweat off and keeping my head cool. Light weight but sturdy and stayed secured to my head in the stronger winds. I recommend this hat for anyone who is looking not only for style but great function and durability too.

Hats are fine, and as advertised. The shipping packaging could have been better with a fiber box insert with a hole to place the crown in to better protect the hats. I received fast free shipping. Thank You!

So nice, bought it twice

I have worn a Belfry Daley for a couple of years. Recently it was destroyed in an unfortunate incident. I was pleased to find it still available on the website, so I bought it again. I always get compliments on the hat when I wear it out and about. It is casual enough to wear with shorts and flip-flops but looks nice enough to wear with a suit and tie during the summer months.

Great store! Lots of hats I’d never seen or heard of thieir brands. I received lots of good choices that all looked good, it was hard to choose. My husband had fun trying on all the different styles they recommended. The location in Annapolis is how I found the store.

Good fit in medium, good look! Looking forward to wearing this summer. I have had to use brimmed hats to protect face and ears from sun caused skin problems and I prefer a Fedora style to the Cowboy style hat.

The employees at the retail store in annapolis have been fabulous. However, things story there. This hat was shipped via USPS and I still have not received it. USPS said it was deliverers…it wasn’t. i live in a secure building and went down to pic it up 30 seconds after delivery notification..it was not there. I have spoken with HITB Customer Service several times. Clearly this is not the highest priority for them…they have their money. I have physically gone to the post office three times. All they say was that it was delivered. The post office has been paid. And I still do not have a hat and probably wont for at least 30 days while HITB and the USPS figure things out.

My hat finally arrived yesterday (via UPS!)…and it is perfect…great quality and exactly what I was hoping for. Again, my initial review was based on my frustration with the logistics…and I suspect mostly a USPS issue.

I bought a hat like this one at the Hats In The Belfry store in Philadelphia, and after a few years it was showing its age. I needed a new one, and this one is nearly identical. Too bad some of these questions only allow one answer. I'm a casual dresser, a classic dresser and dress for the stage when I'm playing music. The choice was both comfort and style driven. I like the style of this hat, and it's very comfortable.

I marked this as a gift but I picked it out and told my wife I wanted it for Christmas. I have several straws but they are all natural in color and I had been eyeing this one for awhile now. There was a darker one that I wanted but it was removed so I went for the taffy color. It is winter so I'm wearing felts right now but I wore this one around the house for part of the day and thought it was quit comfortable. I have a straw Scala and a Stetson but this seems just as comfortable. Looking forward to this summer.
